Recent updates in the European Union banking regulatory framework make it more vital for European banks to understand the prudential regulations, and how it impacts the governance of banking supervision.
The EU banking package adopts the bulk of the Basel Committee's proposals but makes some specific changes. These have been largely welcomed by the European banking industry. In particular, the package proposes a lengthy transition period, with reduced risk weights under the standardized approach for residential mortgages and loans to unrated corporates. These will significantly reduce the potential increase in many banks' risk-weighted assets by limiting the impact of the output floor (OF) — a minimum capital requirement for banks using internal models. The OF is set at 72.5% of the own funds requirement, which would apply under the standardized approach. The course will help you gain a deeper understanding of new standards for credit risk, operational risk, and credit valuation adjustment.
